Social Norms and Social Bubbles
Tuesday Mar 09, 2021
Tuesday Mar 09, 2021
Today, Cory Kingstrom joins the conversation again. After a 6-month absence, Cory and Danielle reunite in front of the microphone. Careful folks, this episode is expressive in nature- we are going to discuss s-e-x.
Before that, are you the search engine for your children? Freedom of expression, freedom of speech, freedom to not express or not exercise, what happens when it is no longer a socially acceptable norm to protest? Then we discuss Pastor Clark and his recent sermon gaff, purity preaching, social fears about eroticism. We also dip into the waters of Dr. Seuss, Danielle's 24-hour Facebook ban, censorship, creativity, anger and fear cycles, ignorance and social bubbles, and more.
**Not recommended for children or the highly sensitive.**

Getting to Know Your Neighbor- Part 4
Monday Feb 22, 2021
Monday Feb 22, 2021
Today, David Hoffman joins the conversation.
David has created quite a stirring within the community recently because of a sign he chose to display on his own property. The sign reads "FUCK Biden" and many community members are upset because of the profane nature of the position. While many people support the freedom of speech, others insist that comes with the responsibility of decency and civility. How do we define "decency" and "civility" is a question I aim to answer in the conclusion of this series. Today, David shares his story about what he believes in, why he chose to display the flag and how we can be a more inclusive community.
Please compassionately consider the perspective of David Hoffman.

Today, Dan Coughlin joins the conversation.
Dan is the City Administrator for the city of Olivia, MN. In this episode, Dan shares his story of what drew him to community government, what captivated him to move to Olivia, MN, and what his stance is on Freedom of Speech.
We dive into a discussion of controversy within the community of Olivia—a sign with a 4-letter-word that is creating quite a commotion. Is it political? Is it personal? Is it necessary?
When you have the right to do something, is there something greater than exercising that right?
What does the Freedom of Speech protect you from?
How should communities operate and address controversial issues that hover around Constitutionally protected rights. Must we proclaim what we believe or is it enough to know within?
Please consider the perspective of Dan Coughlin. Enjoy the episode.

Getting to Know Your Neighbor- Part 1
Monday Feb 08, 2021
Monday Feb 08, 2021
This is very near and dear to my heart because it focuses on the controversy within the community I live in and reveals steps on how to reconcile differences. My hope is that this series will encourage us to be more open-minded about getting to know the neighbors we are called to love. The story focuses on a controversial yet Constitutionally protected matter, freedom of speech. It’s not every day that the national headline stories are taking place in your own back yard. Much of what is discussed echoes collective fears about the erosion of rights.
In this first part of the series, we will start off with the Olivia City Council Meeting Minutes from January 18th, 2021. It begins at the 1 hour 21-minute mark of the meeting. This is Item H. on the Agenda and it pertains to an upcoming guest’s yard sign. I want you to listen to this section of the meeting with an open mind. There were so many things that stood out to me that I will opine on later in the series, but for now, I want you, the listeners, to have the same information and hear the same exchanges that I did when I first started investigating this story. It’s about 23 minutes long. Afterward, I will offer my initial thoughts- things that stood out to me that I took notes on and had questions about.
From there, we will embark on a series of interviews that I conducted with city council members, city officials, the sign owner, and others who wanted to speak to the controversy creating a conflict within our community. If you want to be a part of the conversation, please email me at Danielle.kingstrom@live .com, or find me on social media: Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, also on LinkedIn.
For now, the questions I shall pose will require reflection, and I invite you to reflect on them along with me. I hope to try to answer these questions by the end of the series, but it could be that new ones arise, or none of them are answered at all. If you believe you have an answer, please let me know.
Here are the questions I will leave for you to consider:
What does a civilized society look like? Who decides what is and is not civilized?
If we do not exercise our rights, will we lose them?
If we have the right to do things, does that mean we ought to?
What are shared values and who determines what is valuable?
Can we agree to disagree?
Listeners, as always, I ask you to compassionately consider the perspective of The City of Olivia. Enjoy the episode.

The Face of God in Everything
Wednesday Feb 03, 2021
Wednesday Feb 03, 2021
Today, Matthew Niemi joins the conversation. Matthew is a Ph.D. Candidate for Islamic Studies and reached out to me after hearing the episode Psychedelic Christianity, in which I question whether Islam offers similar doctrines of forgiveness as Christianity. As a listener, he felt compelled to confront the confusion and offered space to be a guest and discuss. (Listeners, I love when this happens!)
He shares what he has learned of Islam, and then we dig into forgiveness, politics, and censorship. He also flexes his Arabic skills. He drops a few verses from Matthew 23, shows how Jesus is regarded within Islam, and parallels the similarities of Christianity and Islam. Allah is a God of mercy, love, and forgiveness, expecting the same of his followers.
Is it a good thing for Islam to be entangled in politics, should it influence political policies and measures, or should it be separate? Matthew articulates that, like Christianity, there is a spectrum of entanglement similar to what we have in the United States.
Then, we dig into social problems and our responsibility as a collective. I share a little bit about my concern for eroticizing politics, how feminism lost its power by seeking all the power, and why I want to keep eroticism separate from politics.
Matthew raises a good point that politics and religion are helpful for us to organize and operate within the society we live in.
We cover a variety of topics. Settle in and get cozy, and compassionately consider the perspective of Matthew Abdulhaqq Niemi. Enjoy the episode.

Scott Tedrick joins the conversation.

He shares his story and experience of the rally and helps reveal a deeper layer behind the mind of a protest participant.
We talk more in-depth about what he observed, what other participants shared with him, and why he believes that our right to protest is important.
We discuss truth, how to heal and connect in smaller communities, and hope for the future of harmony and healing. With a hat tip to Andrew Volstead and the Volstead act, he shares why the Medicine Wheel matters and what we can do to fold the Native story into our history to include everyone.

The Positives of the Purity Culture- A Response
Danielle addresses a blog posted on Patheos Progressive Christian.
Are we really rejecting the purity culture if the patterns and programs run deeper than just the surface? Is a verbal disclaimer the magical tool to transforming the erotic?
When you use the same fear tactics to condemn fear tactics, it’s counterproductive. Mimetic theory coming in your face.
What Jesus was really showing us through erotic relationships?
How do we go from puritanical entanglements to erotic nurturing and growth?
Why the deconstructionists need to deconstruct from deconstructionism.

Vogue + Harry Styles + Dress + Candace Owens + Attack on Masculinity
I address the scandal of Styles in a dress and expose the hypocrisy in crying wolf over ideas that masculinity is somehow being upended simply because a dude with long hair is wearing a dress. I remind Christians that we follow a dude who had long hair and wore a dress, and presumably, didn't upset the times all based on what he wore, or did he?

Planting seeds for the future: Practical Hope, as she explains it.
She shares her discovery of beauty and shares how others can find that truth within. I offer an observation about kinetic energy and kenotic love.

Imposing Hell via Incarceration?
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Monday Oct 26, 2020
Adam Anderson joins Recorded Conversations in this episode. Adam is a singer/songwriter and author. In this episode, we share space to tackled tensions with Trump, and how to react to his illness, how the view of hell in our society may impact or influence our incarceration rates. What can the church do (and all of us) to recreate a comprehensive sexual education policy that removes the stigma and encourages an open-minded view of desensitization of sexuality so that it can be understood.
Adam is a singer-songwriter who writes and is now producing and releasing his own material. He is currently working on his debut album and writing a book that will be released along with the album. He grew up as a devout Evangelical Christian and has since departed from that to explore new schools of thought and more inclusive ways of life.
“Be Still” is the first single from his upcoming album and it’s available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, produced by Grant Turley Audio in Houston, TX.
